Romancing the Billionaire (BBC, book 5)

Romancing the Billionaire - Jessica Clare

book 5!

--

(from Goodreads)

Jonathan Lyons. Playboy, billionaire, and adventurer, he lives life on the edge. When he hears that his mentor, Dr. Phineas DeWitt, had a secret journal that leads to a legendary artifact, Jonathan takes action. It stirs his blood, but it comes with a heady challenge: DeWitt's daughter Violet. She has what Jonathan needs. And she’s not giving it up it to the man who broke her heart.

Violet is Jonathan’s weakness—he’s still in love despite their volatile breakup a decade ago. But Violet’s memories have a sharper edge. She’s never forgiven him for abandoning her. Or so she thought. When Jonathan’s attentions turn seductive, she’s in danger of falling for him all over again. And she can’t help but wonder... does he really want her, or just what she's hiding?

A bit lazy today for me to do a roundup of the story so i just copied it in goodreads. >.<

Oh no.. oh no.. unfortunately.. this bore me.

let me just make a list:

book 1--good (Logan)

book 2--so good (Hunter)

book 3-- so good (Reese)

book 4-- so good (Griffin)

book 5--just ok (Jonathan)

I really like stories with second chances. I think I haven't found a lot that really stick to me. I am a bit sad that i didn't enjoy this much. It's not that exciting. The girl MC is not an interesting character thus not creating much chemistry with the boy MC. Their adventure together, literally, with all the places aren't much visible, again, not that exciting. Maybe with the adventure and the change of settings, i'd hoped to have a faster pace, you know. Probably, some interactions and rendezvous with those different places with our enthusiastic, wild characters. But nah.

This book could have been fun, but it was not.

In a lighter side. The premise is nice and i love the poems in the story. Dang, i love poems and letters, so it won me there.

The Wrong Billionaire's bed (BBC, book 3)

The Wrong Billionaire's Bed (Billionaire Boys Club Novel) - Jessica Clare

I forgot to make a review about this one.. >.<

--

Billionaire number 3, Reese, is a playboy. One day, he used his friend's cabin to seduce a business partner's daughter to ensure a contract. But Audrey and her sister entered the cabin, as they are childhood friends with the owner Cade, and interrupted the couple in the bath.

Reese is too intrigued with the prim and proper Audrey, who he easily guessed to have feelings with Cade. Dares were started and rendezvous were made in and around the cabin!

--

The dares and the consequences made by Reese and Audrey are the hottest! Daphnie and Cade are also in the whole progress of the story.

I enjoyed it!

Once upon a billionaire by Jessica Clare (BBC, book 4)

Once upon a Billionaire - Jessica Clare

Not the most steamiest book in the series but...

---

Viscount Griffin Virdi in the land of Bellissime is to attend a royal wedding of this country that he might not want to visit again. A day before the flight, his assistant gotten sick. Gretchen, his friend's wife volunteered his husband's assistant Maylee, oh, the bubbly Post-it-loving girl Maylee to accompany him and fill the position.

The two started off to be the opposites of each other.

--

It's not the steamiest book, as i'ved said. You know when you just read the book 3 and they were all like all over each other, and then, this happened. The pair is truly an odd one. And i loved it. I mentioned that the author paired each couple in the series interestingly(well, except with Cade not being paired in the end, with Daphnie-book 6-in my opinion). This book started as cute and funny, having a billionaire with an attitude and an assistant with a weird accent and grammar.

It was fine. It's just not the best. Maybe because I wanted to explore more on the couple, on the story, on the setting, on the royals involved, but it might be too much knowing it's a 200-page book only. Yours truly loves conflicts and fuck ups! >.<

So maybe if some readers rated this low, it is because it lacks a lot of things. BUT,  it has the cutest pair of a couple. I love pairs that are opposites. They say opposites attract, right?

SPOILER ALERT!

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Insurgent - Veronica Roth

I think you know why I read this now..

--

I honestly dont know how to make a synopsis about dystopia like this but it's simply about Tris and Tobias escaping from Jeanine(Erudite) and getting to the other factions for support.

--

yes, it's because the movie will be out later this month.

I'll make this short by telling you that I liked it better than the first one, Divergent. I said a few times that I prefer Dystopia, Post-apocalyptic or any type of steam punk books to be very neat and written simply. The hype of these books especially the ones that are famous and well-marketed are either because as i've said well-advertised or well-written. but of course, i'm not talking about them all. some. unfortunately.

Although, i also said this in my review of Divergent, that this book series is famous because it's written with good visual. The fast pacing of this book is because of the characters that always coming and going in different settings which is a dystopian book is supposed to be. I dont like this genre so much, but i think we'll be seeing and reading more of these stories for awhile because even Hunger games movie franchise haven't ended yet.

Back to the book. Hell, even the cover was gorgeous. It's my favorite cover between the four books(including FOUR). I personally like the pace, the simplicity, the danger, the atmosphere, the relationship of Tris and Four.

You know what I don't like? It's a book reader dilemma, actually. Mine. And I can't actually blame it to everyone.

I got spoiled. And i dont want you to be spoiled for the next book if you haven't read it yet. But if you do, do continue reading this post.

(show spoiler)

yes, i know already that Tris will die. She's not my favorite character. Honestly, that type of character will die in that danger of a society. But i just realized, that the writing of this book pretty much gave away what will happen to the characters. The author is so easy to introduce a new one and kill off in a pull of a trigger.

So yeah, it sucks.  i remember that some fans are so emotional about Tris and i cant forget the raging tweets and book news. that was how i accidentally knew and got book spoiled. it's funny actually. every reader has this different type of pace and allotted time to read a particular book but along the way he cant control what to read in the internet. lol.

I love this scene:

"Sleep,” he says. “I'll fight the bad dreams off if they come to get you.” “With what?” “My bare hands, obviously."

Beauty and the Billionaire by Jessica Clare

Beauty and the Billionaire - Jessica Clare

I knew it!>>

---

The second billionaire in the series is the scarred(literally) Hunter and his plan to make Gretchen, a ghostwriter, his friend.

---

I knew it that this book's better! Hunter and Gretchen's story is heartbreaking! I had some tears in the last part! It's like Beauty and the Beast, Hunter being rich and hideous because of his accident years ago, and Gretchen is so beautiful and sassy. There's these mansion with wings and maids and libraries and roses. It's like a fairy tale.. but hotter... so much hotter, you guys.

The plot was about Hunter's perspective about himself that after Gretchen clearly loves her, he ends up not trusting her. I won't tell more, i wont spoil but the idea is on the title and gets pretty heavy.

--

*It's weird that I guessed two pairings in the series so far. I knew Hunter will end up with Gretchen and Reese will end up with Audrey(book 3). Here's my confession, I hated to know that Cade wont end up with Daphne! I just searched in goodreads that they wont end up in book 6! I dont know what's the reason, but Daphne is a flawed problematic girl and i dont know if the fans just not wanted them to be together, but i'm really disappointed. She's the interesting one. If I were the author, I'll let them be together because I know I planned it in the first place and would make my fans like her in the book. The book 6 will still be published in June but i have to rant now. (I planned to rant this opinion after my review of book 3 but..I cant helped it!) I read that the author said about Daphne needed more redeeming.(which her cameo started way back in book 2..).. so.. well, i'll get over it, i think. the author is still the boss.  haha -.-  (but i sense a negative feel to that one..well, just for me)

Stranded with a Billionaire by Jessica Clare

Stranded with a Billionaire (Billionaire Boys Club Novel) - Jessica Clare

I am too inlove in reading billionaire romantic stories even if books in this genre are somewhat similar.

It's another rich man meets simple girl i say, but ended up reading the next one anyways.

..

This series in general is about 6 billionaires who are good friends meeting their right women in each of their stories. If there aren't rich, many people would say, it's a narcissistic cult. *lol just kidding..

This book one includes the romantic story of Logan, a filthy businessman who is eyeing a resort restoration for business. One day, he went to the resort, stucked in an elevator while evacuating, with a waitress, and ended up with the same waitress in the middle of a hurricane. Bronte, is the said waitress.

--

I finally started reading this series as it is somewhat popular. The story is very predictable and very common in the world of contemporary romance. Should i care? Not at all. It's just that, it fell too flat for me. No angst, no intensity. Same old conflict which is Logan being generous to Bronte, Bronte being a good girl not needing any expensive gifts. There is also the trust issue from Logan's side. Again, common.

The funny things is, it was a fast-paced read for me because I wanted to start reading the second book. Hunter and Gretchen was introduced in this book, and i saw their potential love story to be very good and interesting one in book 2.

Although, it's a 3 star-rating for me, the hot scenes are still hot.

add to your contemporary reading list!

How To Open A New Book

The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

Dziewczyna z pociągu - Paula Hawkins

It's about Rachel, whose going to work everyday by train and seeing by the train window the same couple in their house, whenever the train stops in a station. She adore the couple and even made them names. She somehow being attached to them. They are a perfect couple from a watcher point of view. One day, the wife gone missing and before that day, she witnessed an incident that might help finding her.

--

Many readers compare this book to Gone Girl. To be honest, for me, GG is more twisted and like that book better. At first, i didn't know how the book is somewhat similar to this book, knowing just the title, i can't fathom any comparisons.

When i was reading this, i discovered the reasons and pretty much because they have both a couple involved, the wife was gone one morning, and some twisted scenes between them.

It's a good mystery. It got good writing too and it's not bad, for a new author who wrote this as her first mystery.

But if i were to compare the two, i still got mindfucked more in GG, tho this book have a charm of its own.

The mysteries of this book can be fathomed when you really read between the scenes. In the normal scenes of the characters involved, those where the secrets somehow being kept. It's amazing. I didn't guessed who the culprit is. Every mystery have one, right? So be very challenged finding him/her. :)

Also, it's true when i said and all the people who read this that this book is hard to put down. It's a 300-page story, and you'll find yourself not noticing the passing of time because this will suck the time you have. You need to know what happen, you will eager to know it. Sadly, of course, the revelations are  in the very end so your reading pace will be train-like fast :)

One thing i didn't like, oh, two..sorry.. Two things I didn't like, and maybe i said this in my reviews already, that one, i hate dates from past to present and then future(like that of Time-travelers wife) and two, i hate flashbacks.

I loved flashbacks just one time in a particular book, but i still had some bitter taste from it.

But urgh, no flashbacks for me. I dont want to be confused by dates. and this book did these two so.. i had like 5 trips in the kitchen for some tea.

Ms. author, well done writing such unique characters. I think, one of the charm of this book are the characters. It was a good mystery because the secrets are behind those people involved.

To conclude, it's a good book, it's a challenging one. I'll just suggest to read this way before or after GG so that you wont compare them.(but it was hard for me >.<)

Valentine's day with books

Outlander - Diana Gabaldon Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen, Anna Quindlen The Truth About Forever - Sarah Dessen If I Stay - Gayle Forman Tangled - Emma Chase

(you know the pattern..)

I'll give you my favorite swoon-worthy romantic books that will surely ease the pain of lack of physical boyfriend.. and i know you'd prefer Darcy or a Scott with curls ...

1. Outlander

- historical romance

- Jamie Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser - virgin, knows how to kiss tho, sweetest Scott wearing kilt

- time-travelling wife turned single when met Jamie (lol)

- Starz's new tv adaptation

- it's not in any way associated with FSOG (they have their own different worlds-gdm!)

- “Ye werena the first lass I kissed," he said softly. "But I swear you'll be the last.”

2. Pride and Prejudice

- Darcy

- at least, if you haven't read a book and want to look smart on your date, read this

- steal a quote like..  “You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you."

3. The truth about forever

- my favorite book of Sarah Dessen

- Wes

- *sighs*

- “There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment.”

4. If I stay

- it's a tear-jerker

- Adam - dont make him write a song. dont.

- “Please Mia," he implores. "Don't make me write a song.”

5. Tangled

- one of the funniest romantic story i've ever read

- Drew Evans

- “For God's sake, don't let her watch Cinderella. What kind of example is that? A mindless twit who can't even remember where she left her damn shoe, so she has to wait for some douchebag in tights to bring it to her? Give me a frigging break!”

- told you

That's it! just 5 books because (im starving)

Reblogged from Angels With Attitude Book Reviews:

The Storied life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry - Gabrielle Zevin

A. J. Fikry's life is not at all what he expected it to be. His wife has died, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen. Slowly but surely, he is isolating himself from all the people of Alice Island-from Lambiase, the well-intentioned police officer who's always felt kindly toward Fikry; from Ismay, his sister-in-law who is hell-bent on saving him from his dreary self; from Amelia, the lovely and idealistic (if eccentric) Knightley Press sales rep who keeps on taking the ferry over to Alice Island, refusing to be deterred by A.J.'s bad attitude. Even the books in his store have stopped holding pleasure for him. These days, A.J. can only see them as a sign of a world that is changing too rapidly.

And then a mysterious package appears at the bookstore. It's a small package, but large in weight. It's that unexpected arrival that gives A. J. Fikry the opportunity to make his life over, the ability to see everything anew. (goodreads)

---

I was going to the cashier holding this book last week and an employee said to me that its a good choice. I think, he's right.

What a beautiful story! I really like a story of an independent bookstore in a small island. And when you hear it like that, everybody in the island is involved, everything isn't quite the same way it seems and secrets lurks and just ready to come out anytime soon. A.J.'s life will changed dramatically after he received that gift inside his bookstore. That change that I can't say to you guys and the always smell of books and papers and seaside will transport you to Alice Island.

The writing is very good. Some few humor, some mystery, some reading. It's a fast read. A story that you wouldn't want to end.

Gentlemen Prefer Succubi by Jill Myles (Succubus diaries, book 1)

Gentlemen Prefer Succubi - Jill Myles

Of course.. they prefer succubi...

--

Jackie woke up in a Dumpster one day from weird encounters with two men the night before. She found herself befriended by a porn star slash succubus and an angel, one of the men who sired her. Apparently, she died and became a succubus that changed her body into a bombshell. She is still to meet the other being who sired her and was led into a vampire club to investigate their queen's dark plan that she's been brewing.

--

Very promising-sounded premise and I liked that it's link to archaeological stuffs. I like museums and Jackie is a docent. Her adventure was okay but no exciting actions and have no shocking revelations. Very predictable.

Very sexy tho.

There's a love triangle between Jackie's sires and herself. The conflict between them was important in the story.

I am fond of reading paranormal sexy series even if it's totally worth setting aside. It's not very unique. Angels, Vampires, Succubus. All things paranormal are exciting enough even if you've read this story before about each of them with a unique girl between them and a lot of pheromones and mystery guys.

Debt by Nina Jones

DEBT - Nina G. Jones

I know that the premise might scare some but...

----

Nina have some dangerous desires in her mind. Her best friend then introduced to her about a secret website that caters a fake rape scene and  sex with a partner. Of course, she may fill in some sexual preferences, payments and such. Intrigued by it, she logged in in the site, payed and waited for her attacker.

Tax waited for the opportunity with Mia to be alone and readied his task.

--

but.. it's gonna go deeper. There is more than the story and expect some revelations. The scenes get hotter, the emotional intensity got higher. Tax is a damaged hero and the character-building of him, and all of the main characters, were amazing.

i hate flashbacks in between chapters but i must say, this book have them short enough that you won't find yourself bored before you know it. there were done and back to the pace before you tear your hair out and i think it's very important for books to have limited well-written flashbacks. again, i hate flashbacks.

I may had some tears. The couple are so hot together and to each other.

You need to read Fever Series, all five of the books, before you start this spin-off.

This is about Dani with a super speed and a Fae-killing sword, along with Ryodan, go into a battle between the Ice Monster in post-Dublin apocalyptic after-the-wall collapse.

--

I forgot how Moning made me hate her and love her as well. She got the most tenseful teaseful writing for romance in the history of fuckin' let-them-kiss-already scenarios! She got the award, if it's even exist.*lol

We all hated Jo. We all hated Ryodan because he's boinking* her. (sorry, that's the book used-lol). I don't know why, or if there's even a good explanation, but i knew it that it will take time for Dani and Ryodan to reach love paradise. heh. Well, in the first place, Dani's 14!

But yeah, not even was a kiss  happened either. so spoiler. you have been warned.

Tho, it's the journey that matters. It's what readers and me addicted to this series.

It's exciting enough to neglect such need for romance.

She's one of my favorite author. I am so addicted to this series.

I hate how it affects me, especially that of by Barrons and Ryodan. They are not particularly heroes with the sweetest gestures, oh they are absolutely not. I remember hating Barrons and then liking him after few scenes. It's how moving the writing is.

I am so looking forward for the author to give me reasons with Ryodan because it isn't working with this book, i tell you.
